Solskjaer gives update on Martial, Lingard injuries ahead of Chelsea clash
Manchester United interim manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given an update on his team’s duo of Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard after they both limped off during their 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
Goals from Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe gave the French champions a win at the Old Trafford on Tuesday night and the game could have serious implications beyond Man United’s European hopes.
First, Lingard limped off the field just before halftime, holding his hamstring as he was replaced by Alexis Sanchez.
Then as the teams emerged for the second half, Martial was nowhere to be seen. Juan Mata came on in his place.
Solskjaer is now left to sweat over the fitness of the pair as he prepares for Monday night’s FA Cup fifth round clash with Chelsea.
Both Martial and Lingard had recorded three goals and two assists since the Solskjaer arrived Old Trafford just before Christmas.
The Manchester Coach told reporters yesterday: “Lingard and Anthony give us something. They have muscle injuries.
“Let’s hope they’re not too serious. So we’ll just have to wait a couple of days (to assess their fitness).”
