Chelsea make Christian Pulisic BID to steal march on Liverpool - but there's a catch

CHELSEA have stolen a march on their Premier League rivals by launching the first official bid for Borussia Dortmund sensation Christian Pulisic, according to reports.

The American winger, 20, is valued at around £70million and the Evening Standard say they have now firmed up their interest with an offer.

However, they also claim his first choice would be a switch to Liverpool as he is keen to reunite with ex-Dortmund chief Jurgen Klopp.

Both clubs are understood to be monitoring his situation after talks over signing a new contract with the German giants came to a standstill.

While the report does not outline exactly how much Chelsea are offering, it is claimed it falls below the asking price and that Dortmund are holding out for the full £70m.

That is despite the fact he only has 18 months left to run on his current deal at the Westfalenstadion.

Chelsea reportedly want the deal wrapped up in the January transfer window as they look to pip Liverpool to his signature.

They are desperate for new faces in attack due to the uncertainty surrounding the future of Eden Hazard.

Like Pulisic at Dortmund, Hazard is yet to agree an extension to his deal that runs out in 2020.

Hazard has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid and was close to joining last summer.

He has previously stated his desire to move to England in the future and insisted he will make a decision on his next move in January.

It was initially thought a move would be more likely next summer.

However, his refusal to sign a deal and the fact clubs are queuing up to sign him means Dortmund might get more money if they let him go in the winter window.
